Most of what you see in this shop starts as a length of wool or tweed on our cutting table in Ukraine. We’re a family workshop, making hats since 2010: caps, berets, cloches, newsboy hats, and fur hats too.

How a cap gets made here

There are three of us in the workshop now: me, my uncle and my wife. One of our seamstresses used to work right here with us, but we had to move the workshop for safety reasons. Today all our seamstresses work remotely, and we keep sending them work. In times like these, they should have a job. We buy the fabric, design the models, cut every piece and sew. The cut pieces go out to the seamstresses, they assemble the caps and send them back. Then every cap goes onto a hat block in the workshop. We shape it, finish it by hand, photograph it and only then list it here. Packing, shipping, taxes and customs paperwork are on us too. We pick fabric by feel first and by price second. A tweed that looks good on screen but scratches at the hairline doesn’t make it into a cap. We learned that the hard way.

Why two Etsy shops?

CapsHatsUA, this shop, is for wool and fabric: flat caps, newsboy and baker boy caps, cloches, berets. Our sister shop, FurHatsUA, was for fur. We still make fur hats every season, but Etsy no longer allows real fur on its marketplace, so the fur collection is now sold on our own website, capshatsua.com. The story of that move is on furhatsua.store.

How to shop with us

Everything wool and fabric is right here. Checkout happens on Etsy, and your order is backed by Etsy’s Purchase Protection. You’re buying from a small workshop with the safety of a marketplace you already know. Not sure about your size? Measure around your head just above the ears and compare with the size in the listing. If you’re between two sizes, go up.
